After Nikon D3s was thrust to the top position on the mat professional digital SLR, Canon EOS 1D re-capture it through Mark IV. However, the difference between the two, very thin. Almost simultaneously with the introduction of Nikon D3s, Canon EOS 1D Mark immediately launched IV to replace EOS 1D Mark III. Both cameras are aimed at professional photographers, sports and journalism. As a professional camera, both offer a very high sensor sensitivity up to ISO 102,400.

When the EOS 1D Mark IV as compared to its predecessor, in terms of body design is almost no change. The changes were focused on developing new technologies that can improve the performance of the camera. Changes outside only in the new LCD camera screen has a resolution of 920,000 pixels. Therefore, the display image on the LCD becomes brighter, brighter and sharper. While all control functions are still using the same design concept.

The most significant changes made by replacing the DIGIC III processor in the EOS 1D Mark III to generation DIGIC IV processor in the EOS 1D Mark IV. With the latest processor, the camera resolution increased from 10.7 Megapixel to 16.1 Megapixel Megapixel.
The new CMOS sensor on the EOS 1D Mark IV is still using the standard APS-H. Standard sensors are only used on professional SLR digital cameras have Canon's 1.3x crop factor. Therefore, the EOS 1D Mark IV did not include a full frame camera.

Significant changes are also done on the autofocus system. Autofocus system on the EOS 1D Mark IV developed into a 45-point AF sensor with 39-point AF sensor including a cross-type sensors. EOS 1D Mark III only uses 19-point cross-type AF sensor type. Cross-type sensors are not centered in the middle of the camera alone, but spread evenly across almost the entire surface of the camera sensor. Thus, the focus distance can be determined more accurately.

To make a measurement to be better lighting, Canon developed a technology that involves metering AF sensors. AF sensor is incorporated in the 63-zone metering system which is owned by the EOS 1D Mark IV. In addition, the camera also has almost all the necessary metering code of professional photographers, such as multi-pattern, selective, spot, spot AF and multi-linked spot.

The latest facts fairly interesting is Canon began to adopt the concept of amateur digital SLR to be applied on the latest professional digital SLR. One is the option "Auto ISO". In addition, the EOS 1D Mark IV also features the Auto Lighting Optimizer that can maximize the dynamic range image. With the addition of two features, professional digital SLR no longer seem so arrogant more friendly to casual users.

Another new feature added is Live View and Full HD video recorder. When running Live View mode, you have to use autofocus with Face Detection system. To fix the vignetting caused by the lens, the EOS 1D Mark IV equipped with 40 data useful lens to correct lens vignetting problem that is used automatically. While the feature view finder with 100 percent picture coverage and two memory card slots (1 Compact Flash type, a type of SD card) together with its predecessor.
In terms of high sensitivity at high ISO, EOS 1D Mark IV capability competing with Nikon D3s. Both have the highest sensitivity up to ISO 102,400. However, the pictures taken at ISO 102,400 is quite impressive. If both are compared, the characters that appear in the image noise at high ISO fairly close together. For the ISO 3200 quality of images produced for the EOS 1D Mark IV and Nikon D3s, just good. When using the ISO 6400, Nikon little lead. But the second performance worthy enough given the positive appreciation.

In terms of color accuracy, the results from the EOS 1D Mark IV that was taken with auto white balance mode under the daylight type light source having a little deviation of 6.8 DeltaE. Accuracy is slightly below the Nikon D3s. In quality pictures, Nikon D3s are superior to the Canon 1D Mark IV, but the EOS 1D Mark IV has a 16.1 Megapixel effective resolution. With higher resolution it can cover up a little short-owned EOS 1D Mark IV in picture quality. EOS 1D Mark IV can perform continuous shooting at 9.7 fps.
